| Dear Family Vacation Center Applicant, |
| Thank you for applying for the best job you'll ever have! If you are fortunate
enough to be selected, you will develop friendships that last forever and become
a part of a long and rich staff tradition. Working at the FVC requires energy,
time, exceptional people skills, dedication, and a love of kids and family fun.
You will become part of a unique family that will make an indelible mark on the
rest of your life. |
| Every week, up to 300 vacationers arrive to enjoy a week of fun, sun, recreation
and entertainment in the San Rafael dorms on the UCSB campus. Most families have
a strong FVC connection and choose to return year after year. We provide their
rooms, meals, activities, entertainment and good, wholesome family fun. |
| Central to vacationer enjoyment is the FVC staff. We're looking
for unique, team-oriented individuals who will take their summer job responsibilities
seriously and who will breathe life into our summer season in an exceptional
way. Successful staffers are friendly, approachable, reliable, flexible, honest,
positive and spirited, among many other things. The staff interacts with our
vacationers every single day. How you approach that interaction will have a dramatic
impact upon the success of our program. Vacationers love to become friends with
our staff and you will have a great opportunity to network with them, and be
a positive role model for all of their kids |
| As an FVC staffer, you will work, eat, play and live with other
student staff members throughout the summer. In addition to your normal job assignment,
you'll be asked to do a variety of other tasks. You might be in Small World during
the day and singing at the campfire program that night. You could be helping
to lead an adult bike ride or performing in our wild water show. It's an absolutely
fantastic experience. |
| That being said, we are very selective about who becomes a part of the wonderful
FVC tradition. In addition to this application, qualified applicants will also
take part in both a group and individual interview, as well a mandatory background
check. Staffers are also required to be CPR and First Aid certified throughout
the duration of their employment. It seems like an arduous process, but trust
us that it will be very well worth it. |
