Application Process
- The first step is filling out the application. Mail completed
applications to: Family Vacation Center, UCSB Alumni Association,
Santa Barbara, CA 93106-1120, FAX them to (805) 893-2927, or
bring them by our office at the Mosher Alumni House on the UCSB
campus.
- The second step is the group interview. These will be scheduled
for the followng week after the application deadline.
- The third step is an individual interview. These will be scheduled
approximately two weeks after the application deadline. If you
are selected, please come to your personal interview prepared
to give a two-minute presentation about anything that you would
like. You may give a performance, demonstrate a skill, tell a
story, a few jokes – the floor will be yours. We encourage you to
turn in applications early!
DATES: All new staff are required to attend a new staff
orientation on the evening of May 7, an all staff retreat on May 16-18 and
are required to work for the full 2008 summer season. Most staff will
be asked to arrive at camp on Thursday June 19th to begin workweek
on June 20th. ALL staffers are expected to work through Saturday, August 30,
2008. If you have ANY conflicts with these dates, you must tell us before or
during your interview.
LOCATION: San Rafael Residence Hall and Manzanita Village on the UCSB
Campus.
SALARIES: Starting salary for the summer of 2008
is $950.00 per month, plus room and board (which is a value of $1800/month).
Your actual salary will depend on the level of experience and skills required
by the position. Staff may earn extra money by babysitting and providing
private lessons to vacationers.
WORK SCHEDULE & TIME OFF: Staffers typically work a 40-45 hour work
week, including evening hours and weekends, with a day-and-a-half
off per week. Working at the FVC is a full-time commitment, and we
discourage other summer obligations. Specific hours vary and are not
determined until the end of workweek or later.
LIVING CONDITIONS: Staff live in the singles halls of San Rafael Residence
Hall. In general, staff's living quarters are close, but each staff
member has a private room. Staffers are expected to eat with campers
at mealtimes.
CAMP SAFETY: ALL staffers must be certified in CPR and First
Aid. This is a condition of employment. It is recommended that you make plans
early to attend an upcoming training class. In addition, all staff will
under go a background check. This will occur during the staff retreat.
STAFF HANDBOOK: Guidelines and policies of the Family Vacation
Center are explained for hired staffers in the Staff Handbook. Violation of any policy may result in disciplinary
action, up to, and including, termination of employment.
